Birth Doula Services of Southern Maryland

About
I have always been drawn to the stories and narratives of birthing families - mothers and partners as well. I am fascinated with the positive power of birthing - especially since our culture so often teaches us differently. I want to be a part of something that helps families, supports their strengths, acknowledges their weaknesses, and shows them how extraordinary their bodies can be. I trained under the DONA International program with Nicole Heidbreder, a renowned teacher in the DC/Maryland area.
I come to this calling after a full life of other paths taken. I am semi-retired and have a small family business with my husband. I graduated magna cum laude from an honors college in Literature, earned a Masters at University of Maryland, taught college for 8 years, ran several arts programs, and raised a family of 4 - two step-daughters and two sons. I've experienced both hospital births and home birth with a midwife. I also volunteer as a literacy tutor, hike, kayak, work with small arts organizations and birthing organizations locally.
